Mystery Solved: Goulds 3175L Pump Repair

For example, here is an interesting case one of our great customers brought to us recently. The subject was a Goulds 3175L 18x18x22 pump that had nothing outwardly wrong but just wouldn’t run. We love a good challenge and our techs got right to work.

After assessing the pump and partially disassembling the unit, they kept hearing a strange bearing noise with no clear cause and no pump function. ABET technicians completely disassembled the unit and they discovered the shaft was split in two.

Well, that does explain it!

Our technicians then replaced the shaft sleeve, lantern ring, packing, bearings, labyrinth seals, gaskets, O-rings, inboard cover, and associated fasteners. They reassembled the pump, performed final inspection and testing then finished with a fresh coat of paint. The pump is pictured here prior to preparation for delivery.

Mystery solved and the pump was ready to be put back in service.
